GENCORK x ZAHA HADID ARCHITECTS

Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) has partnered with Gencork to create a unique cork wall panel system based on designs by ZHA. Gencork initially collaborated with ZHA to manufacture and install four bespoke feature walls for their London office. Thalia, one of the four developed patterns, originates from ZHA’s explorations into generative design.

Developed through computational algorithms, the pattern underwent many iterations before its three-dimensional sculptural form was milled in cork. This unique collaboration represents a thoughtful exploration of advanced design methodologies elevating sustainable materials in architecture.

Thalia CORK pattern by Zaha Hadid Architects for GENCORK

Thalia was launched at Maison & Objet (M&O) Paris in January 2025, marking Gencork’s 10-year anniversary and a key milestone in their innovative collaboration with Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA). This partnership pushes the boundaries of cork as a material in architecture and interior design, blending the low-tech sustainability of cork with high-tech computational design and industrial digital manufacturing processes.
This collaboration exemplifies the intersection of generative design and advanced fabrication techniques. Gencork’s decade of expertise in using generative algorithms for unique cork walls made them an ideal partner for ZHA, reinforcing cork’s adaptability to advanced design methodologies. The Thalia pattern reflects ZHA’s years of research and development, displaying how computational design and sustainable materials can combine to create a product that is both aesthetically compelling and technically advanced.
